Our Work

More Than Shelter.
A Foundation for Lasting Change.

Our programs bring these elements together to help people navigate difficult circumstances and move toward greater stability.

At ALMA, we believe humanitarian assistance should address both immediate needs and the challenges people face as they rebuild their lives.

Support Our Work

Providing a safe place to sleep is important.

But so is access to food, education, practical skills, spiritual support, and community.

Refugee Shelter

Refugee & Transitional Shelter.

Everyone deserves a safe place to rest.

Our shelter programs provide refuge and essential assistance to displaced individuals and families facing hardship and uncertainty.

Beyond accommodation, we seek to create welcoming environments where people can access basic necessities, connect with community, and begin planning their next steps.

Our shelter programs operate in Tijuana and Tapachula, Mexico.

Food & Humanitarian Relief

Food & Humanitarian Assistance.

For families experiencing displacement, access to regular meals and essential supplies can become a daily challenge.

ALMA works to provide food assistance and humanitarian support that helps address immediate needs.

We believe providing a meal is about more than addressing hunger.

It is an opportunity to offer comfort, dignity, and compassion.

For Muslim refugees, access to halal food is also an important consideration.

Dawah & Islamic Education

Sharing Faith. Building Community.

Our Islamic faith is central to the values that inspire ALMA’s humanitarian work.

Alongside our humanitarian programs, we create opportunities for people to learn about Islam, strengthen their understanding, and connect with supportive Muslim communities.

Our educational efforts include Quran learning, Islamic instruction, and community engagement.

Community engagement

We believe learning about Islam should take place in a welcoming, respectful environment.

Humanitarian assistance is never conditioned on religious participation or conversion.

New Muslim Support

Helping New Muslims Find Knowledge and Belonging.

Embracing Islam is a deeply personal journey.

For many new Muslims, finding educational resources, knowledgeable guidance, and a supportive community can make an important difference.

ALMA seeks to provide opportunities for learning, spiritual development, and connection.

Our Latino Muslim heritage also inspires our commitment to making Islamic education accessible to Spanish-speaking communities.

Education & Language Learning

Education Creates Opportunity.

Language barriers can make everyday life more difficult for refugees and migrants.

Communication affects access to services, employment opportunities, education, and community participation.

ALMA supports educational opportunities, including English and Spanish language learning, to help people develop useful skills and greater confidence.

We believe education is an important part of long-term stability.

Vocational & Job Training

Building Skills. Creating Opportunities.

Humanitarian assistance can help someone through a difficult day.

Practical skills and education can help create opportunities for a more stable future.

Build confidence
Prepare for employment or income-generating opportunities
Greater independence

ALMA’s vocational training efforts focus on helping individuals develop useful abilities, build confidence, and prepare for employment or income-generating opportunities.

As refugees and displaced families spend more time in Mexico, education and job training become increasingly important.

Our goal is not simply to provide temporary relief. It is to help people move toward greater independence.

Refugee Assistance

Helping People Navigate Uncertainty.

Refugees and migrants often face significant practical challenges.

Some arrive in unfamiliar communities without stable housing, reliable transportation, financial resources, or established support networks.

Language barriers and changing immigration procedures can make these circumstances even more difficult.

We seek to serve every person with dignity, compassion, and respect.

ALMA’s humanitarian efforts include practical assistance, transportation support, and helping people connect with available resources.

Community & Family Support

Creating Communities Where People Belong.

People need more than food and shelter to thrive.

They also need relationships, friendship, encouragement, and a sense of belonging.

For refugees, migrants, and new Muslims, finding a supportive community can be especially meaningful.

ALMA works to create welcoming environments where individuals and families can connect, learn, and support one another.

Through education, faith-based activities, humanitarian service, and community gatherings, we seek to strengthen the relationships that help people build more stable lives.

Why our work continues

When Borders Close, Our Doors Remain Open.

For many refugees and displaced families, arriving in Mexico is not the end of their journey. It is the beginning of a new set of challenges.

As U.S. immigration and asylum policies change, some displaced individuals and families remain in Mexico for longer periods or seek opportunities to establish their lives there.

ALMA’s mission has never been limited to helping people cross a border.

Our goal is to provide humanitarian assistance and help people move toward greater stability, wherever their future takes them.

That is why our work includes education, language learning, vocational training, and community development alongside shelter and humanitarian relief.

Because every person deserves dignity and opportunity.

Their needs do not disappear.

They still need safe housing.

They still need food.

They still need education and employment opportunities.

They still need community and support.
