The Latina Muslim Foundation is now ALMA — the American Latino Muslim Foundation.

What began as a mission rooted in the compassion and determination of Latina Muslims has grown into a broader humanitarian effort serving people from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds.

Our new name honors our roots while reflecting the future we are building together. For us, alma represents the compassion, faith, and humanity at the heart of everything we do.

Our name has changed. Our commitment to serving humanity remains.

As-Sabil

Tijuana Shelter

Our Tijuana shelter, As-Sabil, represents years of community effort to provide refuge, essential assistance, prayer facilities, and a welcoming environment for Muslim refugees and migrants near the U.S.–Mexico border.

Tapachula Shelter

Our Tapachula location extends ALMA’s humanitarian mission to southern Mexico, where refugees and migrants face significant challenges involving shelter, resources, and stability.

When Borders Close, Our Doors Remain Open.

Because every person deserves dignity and opportunity, regardless of where their journey leads.

For many refugees and displaced families, arriving in Mexico is not the end of their journey. It is the beginning of a new set of challenges.

As immigration and asylum policies change, many individuals and families continue to face uncertainty about their future.

Some remain in Mexico without stable housing, employment, or community support. Others are working to build new lives while navigating unfamiliar systems and circumstances.

ALMA’s mission has never been limited to helping people reach the United States.

We provide humanitarian assistance, shelter, education, vocational training, spiritual support, and community to help people move toward stability.

Meet Sister Sonia

One Woman’s Compassion Helped Build a Mission of Hope.

Sister Sonia Garcia recognized the challenges facing vulnerable refugees and migrants in Mexico and believed something more could be done.

Through years of faith, determination, humanitarian service, and community organizing, her vision helped create dedicated spaces where people could find refuge, dignity, and support.

Today, that mission continues through ALMA.
